Keystone XL Pipeline fails to get the votes to move forward

It was a narrow victory for those of us who love the earth but a victory all the same. The republicans are going to continue to make the Keystone XL pipeline a priority while ignoring the real problems that are facing regular Americans. Like: homelessness, infant mortality, hunger, lack of affordable day care, lack of public pre-school, universal health care, living wage, alternative energy, predatory corporations, civil rights for all, and just a basic good America. A place we can feel good about.

How much longer are these politicians going to ignore the people and just do a days work?

Mass Medical Pot Dispensaries Already Corrupt and Not Even Open Yet

So much corruption in Massachusetts and so little time to keep up with it. This is a perfect article on what we have come to expect from corrupt politicians and cronies. I have already emailed the Governor, Speaker of the House, my Congressman, and my Senator and asked them to fire the head of the Licensing Board of the Mass Medical Marijuana Board. This article says it all.

More US Jobs

I understand that it is not the US Government’s responsibility to create jobs. But when I have to wait 11 minutes to talk to a Medicare Customer Services Rep and 14 minutes to talk to a Mass Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Customer Service Rep, I would say these Government and tax payer supported agencies need to hire more people. Especially in the case of the MBTA where I got a hostile and argumentative response from their Customer Service Man–which is why I emailed and called Gov. Patrick’s Constituent Service with my concern and a person answered my call.

The Medicare Customer Service Woman was awesome once I got to her. But our Government saw us coming. We baby boomers have been on their horizon for decades. Why are they unprepared to handle us? Could it have something to do with the fact that the Pentagon spends billions of dollars annually on public relations on the war in  Afghanistan. Could that be where tax payer dollars are going? What about our taxes supporting US corporations?  (That is for a different blog post.)

As for the MBTA, well they have always been a huge disappointment. I have ridden the T in Boston my whole life and either did not own a car or left my car behind. Their Customer Service Man was rude, hostile, and argumentative. Until I told him that I was not going to accept no for an answer and was viewing the Dept of Transportation web page as we were speaking and would escalate my problem until I got what I want.

Why am I posting? The 10 Ride Half Fare Ticket for the Commuter Rail that I purchased for $27.50 last night expires on December 10, 2013. I am not going to make four more round trips to “in town” Boston by December 10, 2013. So I want a partial refund or value transferred to my Charlie Card. Since I used it for one ride before I noticed the expiry date the T tells me that I have no right to a refund. I also want a repeal of the regulation that allows that to be fair.

What is the first rule . . . .

You do not blog while drunk.

Except if you are celebrating your 65th Birthday.

It was an excellent day. Unfortunately, the temperature in Boston has been in the mid 90s for three days and it feels like triple digits and there is an end in site maybe at the end of next week.

But if you postponed your dinner with the person you love the most, your son, till it cools down–that makes it a better Birthday for you. Which is what I did. But I proposed visiting him early this morning about 9:30am at his place and that was awesome.

Now I am reading a book about the war in Afghanistan and drinking champagne at the same time. A bad combination for someone like me who is basically a peaceful person but wants to understand war. Here is something I can understand. According to this book, the Pentagon spends billions of dollars on public relations on the war in  Afghanistan. I am concerned about the men and women who are dying there or coming home wounded. I will never really understand that aspect of war which is the whole reason I try to understand it.

So here is my 65th Birthday picture.

Game of Thrones

I know I am late to the party but this season of  Game of Thrones I will watch from the beginning. Last season I watched whenever and figured it didn’t really matter. But, I love Dinklage and this season I will watch in sequence. I could say a lot more, but, as I said, I am late to this party.

new cook book for me–tried the corn muffin recipe (successfully)

For Mother’s Day my son gave me a new cookbook. Martha’s American Food, A celebration of our nation’s most treasured dishes, from coast to coast. Martha Stewart’s latest cookbook is truly a collection of America’s best and most loved dishes. One recipe after another that brings back feelings of nostalgia, community, euphoria, and more. The photographs are a perfect complement to the recipes. I am not going to review the book here except to say that it is excellent.

Baked goods, my favorite, are well represented in this cookbook. Here is my first treat from Martha’s American Food cookbook–corn muffins. They taste delicious.
