Recently, my friend and I made bread and butter pickles. I had never done pickling before. It is a bit of work but the results are so worth the effort. We were inspired by the beautiful pickling cucumbers at one of my favorite farm stands at the Roslindale Farmers Market, Boston.
We used an old family recipe belonging to my friend’s grandmother. We also looked online at other recipes for bread and butter pickles and combined ingredients we liked. Here are the ingredients we used (without measurements.)

- apple cider vinegar
- mustard seeds
- celery seeds
